Protecting Inclusive Community
Protecting Inclusive Community
WE EMPOWER COMMUNITIES TO BE INCLUSIVE AND WELCOMING WHILE ALSO PROVIDING A SAFE AND SECURE ENVIRONMENT..
We challenge the premise that there is a choice between a safe community and a welcoming community. In fact, some of the attributes that make an environment magnetic and welcoming are the same attributes that make an environment safer. Through the process of establishing situational awareness and thinking about how we function with proactive prevention methods, we create safer communities open to all who seek to connect in positive and healthy ways.
We specialize in working with faith-based communities and secular nonprofits to navigate challenging conversations on safety and security. We gain an understanding of the culture of the environment, train people to adopt effective practices for detecting and deterring harmful actions and behaviors from negatively impacting the community.
"Diakon" is the Greek word for "Deacon". In early faith communities, the deacon was the one who tended to the needs of the community inside as well as outside the walls of the house of Worship. In the history of the Black church, the Deacon was also the de-facto Security presence for the protection of the gathered. The Shepherd staff was used as both a tool for guiding the flock, making sure all sheep were included and kept together, but also as a tool of protection to keep that which sought to harm the flock from being able to do so. These representations of leadership, outreach, connection, and protection are foundational to who Diakon Consulting is.
We are all about people. Challenging people, building relationships with people. Teaching people. Protecting people. And we are intentional in differentiating the identity of people from their behaviors and their actions. We protect from harmful behaviors and actions, and we do so in ways that do not devalue the person or persons, but also keep people safe.
Diakon Consulting is unique. We are creative in ways that create awareness, build confidence, and set organizations up for success. By doing so, we establish in-roads between faith communities, nonprofits, and public safety entities in ways that are healthy and effective.
